Alathur is a village and gram panchayat in the Palakkad District, state of Kerala, India. It is the headquarters of the Alathur Taluk and is situated at the south west end of the district 24 km from the district headquarters at Palakkad.     Nelliyanpathi

    Nelliyampathy is located 41Km from Gayathri Alathur, Nelliyampathy is a hill station within the Nelliyampathy Forest Reserve, in the southwest Indian state of Kerala. The road to it, which goes through the dense forests of the Western Ghats, is known for its many hairpin turns. To the west is Kesavan Para, a vantage point with views of nearby tea plantations. Farther west is the 19th-century Pothundi Dam. Northeast is the Seetharkundu Viewpoint, with waterfalls nearby.





    Pothundi Dam

    Pothundi Dam is 26KM from GAYATHRI ALATHUR, Pothundi Dam is an irrigation dam near Pothundi village in the Palakkad district of Kerala state, India. Constructed in the 19th century, it is considered one of the oldest dams in India. It provides irrigation to an area of 5,470 hectares (13,500 acres) in the Palakkad district and drinking water supply to the Nemmara, Ayalur, Melarcode Panchayat.An unusual feature of the earth dam is the core wall, which is built with a mixture of jaggery and quick lime.





    Malampuzha Dam

    MALAMPUZHA DAM is 33KM from GAYTHRI Alathur. The main attractions are the suspension bridge, the cable car ride and the Fantasy Park. There are several gardens including one cute Japanese garden. The Yakshi statue of Kanayi Kunhiraman is also reputed even though the nudity of the structure is not approved by the conservative society of Kerala.








    Nemmara Vallangi Vela

    14 Km from GAYTHRI ALATHUR, Nemmara and vallanghy are two neighbouring towns in the south part of Palakkad district, which is in the valley of Nelliyampathi hills. The green carpet of paddy field will turn to the festival ground in the first week of April. The festival falls on 20th of 'Meenam' according to the Malayalam Calendar (2nd or 3rd of every April). The 'Kodiyettam' (starting) will be celebrated on 'meenam 1st' every year. The celebration continues for the first 20 days of 'meenam', and on 20th day the Vela festival will be celebrated. The annual Vela festival, celebrated by Nemmara and Vallangi villages after the paddy harvest, is famous for its display of fireworks and caparisoned elephants.
